EBU Adopts Principles for Connected TVs

 

Looking to spur the distribution of programming on connected TVs, the European Broadcasting Union adopted a set of principles that it said could lower programming costs and offer consumers ore viewing choices.

The EBU's "Principles for Internet-Connected and Hybrid Television" suggests ways broadcasters can reach viewers on new devices while maintaining the integrity of their programming.

If NBC or another major network allowed viewers without pay TV subscriptions to access any program they missed in the last week through a broadband connected TV, there may be a backlash from providers that pay license fees to deliver VOD programs and catch-up services such as Time Warner Cable's "LookBack" feature. But it's another story in the UK, where the BBC iPlayer is expanding the number of connected TVs and devices that viewers can use to access archived programming.

DirecTV: No Plans to Launch Epix

It looks like Dish Network will remain the exclusive U.S. satellite distributor for Epix, as rival DirecTV says it won’t launch the premium channel and Website owned by Viacom.
