--FLO TV, mophie Partner to Bring Live Mobile TV to iPhones
CBS's CBS News and CBS Mobile arms announced Wednesday the launch of the "CBS News Katie Couric" iPhone/iPod touch application in the Apple App store (note: Couric is the anchor of "CBS Evening News," and arguably CBS's most high-profile news personality). According to CBS, the free app--which was developed through a partnership with mobile Web and applications platform company, July Systems--will serve as a "one-stop destination" for keeping up with all Couric's reporting on "all platforms of CBS News," including "CBS Evening News," the shows "60 Minutes" and "CBS Sunday Morning," and the @KatieCouric Webcast on CBSNews.com. "Katie has an innate ability to connect with her audience across a variety of mediums," Mark Larkin, VP of CBSNews.com, said in a prepared statement. "Over the past year, we have seen how her Web coverage has attracted new viewers and sustained a high level of audience engagement. The new CBS News Katie Couric mobile application offers Katie fans an additional opportunity to discover and experience the depth of CBS News coverage through her eyes--all through the convenience of their iPhone."
Key features of the new app, according to CBS, include:
- Breaking news: breaking news and updates on stories throughout the day from "CBS Evening News" and CBSNews.com.
- "Best of" Katie Couric highlights: highlights from Couric's interviews for "CBS Evening News," "60 Minutes," and other CBS News programs.
- Full-length interviews and on-demand excerpts from the @KatieCouric Webcast.
- Updates and insights from the Katie Couric Notebook blog.
In other iPhone news: Qualcomm-subsidiary, FLO TV, and mobile accessory company, mophie, announced Wednesday that they are teaming to develop a series of products that will bring live mobile TV to iPhone/iPod touch devices. The products will incorporate a receiver for FLO TV's mobile TV service into mophie's "juice pack" products which combine a phone case with an external, rechargeable battery.
