Helsinki-based interactive TV company, Icareus (note: the company's offerings include a range of authoring and delivery solutions for MHP, OCAP/tru2way, MHEG and other platforms, as well as an extensive catalog of off-the-shelf interactive TV games and other applications), contacted [itvt] last week to let us know that it has delivered a range of interactive TV solutions to Bruneian national broadcaster, Radio Television Brunei (RTB). The broadcaster--which operates five digital TV channels, RTB 1 and RTB 2 (simulcast), RTB 3 (HD), RTB 4 (international) and RTB 5, as well as five radio networks--is using the solutions to power MHP-based interactive TV services.
According to Icareus, the interactive TV solutions it has delivered to RTB include:
- The Icareus Playout CS100 Carousel Server, which the company bills as a professional DSM-CC object carousel server that supports Normal Play Time (NPT) and playout of stream events. The server can also be integrated with third-party automation systems for synchronization with playlists and schedulers, the company says.
- The Icareus Playout EP100 EPG Server, which the company bills as a full-scale PSI/SI generator server that is targeted at operators and broadcasters and that supports DVB-T, DVB-S and DVB-C, including automatic generation of all main service information.
- The Icareus Playout PC100 Compact, which the company bills as a complete solution for DVB ITV data-service testing and development. Icareus claims that the solution provides all the basic functionality needed for managing and broadcasting MHP/OCAP (tru2way)/Ginga-based content, and says that it consists of an object carousel generator, a PSI/SI generator, a scheduler, a video server and a transport stream multiplexer.
- The Icareus iTV Suite Author, which the company bills as an intuitive visual content development tool that enables rapid development of digital TV content "by anyone, [thus] eliminating the need to hire an expensive technical team."
- The Icareus iTV Suite Integrator, which the company bills as enabling content owners to integrate their XML content data sources with interactive TV application creation, thus allowing them to create and update their ITV applications automatically.
Icareus claims that its other customers include Siemens, Tandberg, RiksTV, Samsung Electronics, NEC Europe, Broadcast Service Danmark, RAI Torino, Ericsson, Teleca Italia, Broadcast Service Danmark, LG, Telecom Italia, ORF Austria, Philips, Multiplus, Irdeto, R Cable y Telecomunicaciones, Thales Broadcast & Multimedia, and Reti Televisive Digital.
