Widget Realm, a company that offers content publishing services for desktop apps, mobile devices and connected TV sets, on Tuesday launched its "Broadcast-It-Yourself" service for Internet-connected devices running the Yahoo! Widget Engine. According to the company, the new service will enable any developer to easily create and distribute TV widgets to millions of connected TV's and other connected devices. "Yahoo! and Widget Realm are going to enable an explosion of interactive television content," Widget Realm CEO, Brian Powell, said in a prepared statement. "We're excited to be working with the Yahoo! Widget Engine to help rapidly expand content for the new technology. In just a few minutes, anyone can create their own television interface and distribute their content to the millions of Internet-connected TV's around the world."
According to Widget Realm, the new service provides developers and publishers with the self-serve ability to design TV widgets featuring such content as RSS feeds, news and articles, photo galleries, audio and video, calendars, Twitter feeds, and more. The company says that the service is priced from $5 per month, depending upon customizable content configurations and usage. "Yahoo! is the trusted partner for publishers who want to take advantage of Yahoo!'s global distribution channels and advancements in building a worldwide developer ecosystem for publishing and distributing new and innovative TV Widgets," Arlo Rose, senior director of product management and design at Yahoo! Connected TV, said in a prepared statement. "Widget Realm exemplifies this and provides an easy-to-use service for developing TV Widgets for publishers and developers who want to enhance the television watching experience."
