Paris-based video-sharing site operator, Dailymotion, contacted [itvt] Wednesday to let us know that users of its site can now share videos in their Facebook profile, using the new Facebook Social Plug-In "Like" button. With one click of the button, the company says, a video is embedded into a Facebook user's Wall, and the button will also allow users to associate a personal comment with the shared video.
Dailymotion also says that it will use the Facebook Open Graph to feature the videos that prove most popular with Facebook users via a recommendation widget on its home page; and that users of its service who are logged into Facebook will see which videos their friends have "Liked" both on the Dailymotion player page and home page (note: for more on Facebook's Open Graph and Social Plug-Ins, see the article on Brightcove in this issue). "Dailymotion is committed to providing our viewers with the best content quality in a user-friendly social environment," Dailymotion CEO, Cedric Tournay, said in a prepared statement. "Implementing the Facebook Social Plug-Ins is a must-have as most of our users are Facebook users as well."
Anticipating privacy concerns that have been raised about Facebook's Open Graph and Social Plug-Ins, Dailymotion's press release announcing support for the new features concludes with the following statement: "Dailymotion and Facebook are committed to respecting user privacy and providing people with a trusted experience. As always, people have controls to manage how their information is shared. Users can set their controls from their Facebook privacy page."
In related news: ESPN.com and USA Network have also announced support for the new Facebook features.
