ClipSync Powers Online Social TV Event for Epix
Epix, a subscription-based multiplatform (linear, VOD, online) premium programming service which is a joint venture between Viacom, its Paramount Pictures arm, MGM and Lionsgate, on Wednesday announced plans to hold an online social TV event around a film of the Black Eyed Peas' sold-out concert tour, "The END World Tour 2010," on its EpixHD.com Web site. The event is scheduled to begin at 10:00PM on Saturday May 15th (note: in addition to streaming on EpixHD.com--where Epix says it will be "available to all fans"--the film of the tour, which was shot in Los Angeles on March 29th and 30th, will be offered on Epix's linear-TV and VOD services).
According to the company, the social TV-enabled online stream of the Black Eyed Peas concert tour film will be offered in the "Epix Event Theatre," which it describes as a "special online interactive community experience...where over 1,000 viewers can share, comment and react to the concert together" (note: fans can request in invite code for the event at http://www.epixhd.com/invite). The social TV experience will be powered by Epix's social TV partner, San Francisco-based ClipSync, which the company says will provide viewers with such social tools as live polls, live comments and "fun 'interactables' which connote laughing, applauding, a lighter, rock horns, hearts, kisses and more." "We are proud to present the world-class talent of The Black Eyed Peas," Epix president and CEO, Mark Greenberg, said in a prepared statement, "and we embrace the celebration of change as Epix is redefining the entertainment experience for our highly engaged audience, harnessing all emerging platforms to engage the next generation of premium viewers."
