VOD and IPTV technology provider, Espial, and system-on-a-chip specialist, Sigma Designs, said Wednesday that they have pre-integrated the WebKit-based Espial TV Browser version 6.0 and Adobe Flash on Sigma Designs SMP865x chipset reference platforms, in order to enable device manufacturers to achieve rapid time-to-market.
According to the companies, the integrated solution provides support for Adobe Flash, Flash video and HTML5 video; offers high performance and stability; and enables high-speed Web rendering on Sigma chipsets, which in turn enables fast HTML, SVG and JavaScript user interfaces, a PC-like Web browsing experience, and OTT video support for services such as YouTube and the BBC iPlayer. "Espial TV Browser v6.0 is a high-performance WebKit-based browser for a PC-like browsing experience, including video," Dilshan De Silva, Espial's director of product management for TV browser products, said in a prepared statement. "We have optimized and pre-integrated our browser with Sigma Designs' SMP865x reference platforms to help reduce integration timeline, cost and risk for device manufacturers to commercially deploy a WebKit-based browser solution on devices with these chipsets." Added Sigma Designs' VP of strategic marketing, Ken Lowe: "Our chipsets support a full suite of content formats, hardware security along with best-in-class video processing. Integrating multimedia with a fast and stable browser delivers a seamless TV user experience for over-the-top content expected with the latest multimedia players and set-top boxes. Espial Browser v6.0 incorporates WebKit, the same engine used by Google Chrome and Apple Safari."
