Comcast Launches The Window Channel on its VOD Platform in Washington State

The Window Channel, a Seattle-based producer of original HD "ambient scenic video" programming, said Wednesday that Comcast has launched its programming service on its VOD platform in Washington State. According to the company, this is its first in-home VOD deal (note: its service has previously been available only in high-end hotels and healthcare facilities), and will see it offering several hours of programming, that will be refreshed regularly.

The company bills its service--which is located in Comcast On Demand's "Get Local" folder--as offering "long-play, ambient scenic video shot in high definition and accompanied by the natural ambient audio recorded in 5.1 high-definition surround sound." It says that the service will be commercial-free and "available at no extra charge for a limited time" to Comcast's digital cable customers in Washington. "Our original content offers a calming and composed ambient background that helps viewers relax and escape from the clutter of daily life," Mark Knight, a partner in The Window Channel, said in a prepared statement. "We have footage as diverse as a sunrise from the beach on the Sea of Cortez in Mexico to looking out over ancient Mayan ruins from atop a pyramid in Guatemala. The format has a completely immersive feel to it."
