AMC, JibJab Team to Let Viewers Star in "Mad Men"
AMC has tapped JibJab Media, an online entertainment company best known for its viral videos and for its Starring You product line (which allows users to insert their own faces into online videos and photos), to create a service called "Mad Men Starring You" that promotes the fourth season of AMC's 1960's-ad-industry series, "Mad Men" (premieres July 25th). "Mad Men Starring You" allows users to take photos of themselves and their friends that they have uploaded or imported from their Facebook profile, cut out the faces, and then superimpose them on a highlights video from the series.
According to JibJab--which shifted from an ad-supported to a direct-to-consumer model in the fourth quarter of 2007 (the shift was apparently successful: the company recently announced that it had processed over a million direct-to-consumer transactions in the 12 months ending June 30th), and whose offerings include annual subscriptions to its eCards and Starring You products, digital downloads for the iPhone and personalized photo merchandise--users have uploaded over 150 million heads to its Starring You platform to date.
