Tremor Media Grows European Team as Part of "Drive for European Interactive Video Ad Dominance"

--Discovery Names Gabriel Sauerhoff VP of Digital Media Distribution

Online video advertising network operator, Tremor Media, said Tuesday that it is bolstering its European team with senior expertise and new hires, as part of what it describes as an "aggressive drive for European interactive video ad dominance."

The company has promoted senior US business development director, Dan Ruch, to VP Europe, in what it says is a bid to align its US and EU businesses in preparation for European market maturity. Citing data from comScore's July, 2010 Video Metrix report, the company claims that its European online video ad network already ranks second only to YouTube in the UK for unique video views, and third in Germany--ahead of any other such ad network. Tremor says that Ruch brings key experience from the US that will help European brands to integrate social media, online games, longer-form content and other interactive elements into video ads, using vChoice, the company's suite of interactive pre-roll video ad units (note: for more on vChoice, see the article published on, June 7th, 2009). Ruch, who will report to Tremor CEO, Jason Glickman, will also be tasked with serving as the European evangelist for the company's Acudeo broadband video monetization platform.

Tremor Media has also hired new sales managers for its Munich and London offices: Alexandra Meier, the former head of sales at Microsoft Advertising's Munich office, is joining the company's German team; while Alexander Wright is joining the company's UK team from OTP Media. "The European video market is growing at an astounding rate," Dan Ruch said in a prepared statement. "Agencies are keen to exploit the most desirable online content to engage targeted audiences with ground-breaking interactive ad units, like vChoice. The momentum in the market is clear and our investment in Europe will maximize the market opportunity."

In other personnel news: Discovery Communications has named Gabriel Sauerhoff VP of digital media distribution. According to the company, Sauerhoff--who will report to SVP of digital media distribution, Rebecca Glashow--will develop and execute distribution strategies across Discovery's digital media offerings, including mobile, online and "additional burgeoning platforms," and will also be responsible for growing existing partnerships, driving new business, and negotiating deals with digital distributors. Sauerhoff, who holds a BA in psychology with a minor in government from Dartmouth College and who is based in Discovery's New York office, was previously manager, then senior director, of digital video distribution at Disney and ESPN Media Networks, where, Discovery says, his responsibilities included establishing and implementing sales strategies for broadband, VOD and interactive TV platforms.
