Brightcove to Power Live Streaming Video for Sundance Film Festival

Online video platform provider, Brightcove, will today (Wednesday) announce that the Sundance Institute is using its platform to support new live and on-demand video initiatives for the 2011 Sundance Film Festival (takes place January 20th-30th in Park City, Utah). According to Brightcove, which has been the Festival's official online video provider since 2008, the Sundance Institute has expanded its online video offerings this year to include live video coverage of major screenings and other events at the Festival, as well as an extensive line-up of new on-demand content, such as interviews with artists and filmmakers, daily video highlights and roundtable discussions. "The mission of Sundance Institute is to discover and foster independent artists and to connect those artists with audiences, and online video continues to play an important role in helping drive awareness and interest in the Festival each year," Joseph Beyer, the Sundance Institute's director of digital initiatives, said in a prepared statement. "Working with Brightcove has enabled us to continually introduce innovative new video offerings that fans can access throughout the world. We are looking forward to taking advantage of Brightcove's live streaming capabilities this year as well as expanding the reach of our video content to new platforms and devices."
According to Brightcove, the Sundance Institute will take advantage of its various live streaming capabilities in order to provide a high-quality live feed of all the major events at the festival. The company says that its technology will allow the Institute to deliver smooth live video with multi-bitrate streaming to ensure a high-quality user experience. In addition, the company says, the live coverage that its technology will enable will provide the Web audience with various ways to interact with filmmakers, and will enable the Institute to "deliver new high-quality, interactive on-demand video experiences that are fully customized and provide fans with a firsthand look at all aspects of the Festival." Among other things, Brightcove claims, its platform will increase the reach of the Institute's video content via social sharing tools for social media services such as Twitter and Facebook, and a range of third-party distribution capabilities. In addition, the company says, its mobile video solutions will ensure that the content is accessible across all major screens, platforms, browsers and devices.
