Kudelski, SkyLife Form JV to Develop and Market Addressable and Interactive TV Advertising Solutions

--Companies Plan to Market Solutions Internationally, Following Deployment in Korea

The Kudelski Group, the Swiss company that recently acquired San Francisco-based interactive TV and advanced advertising technology provider, OpenTV, said Tuesday that it has agreed to form a joint venture with Korean satellite and hybrid services operator, SkyLife, to develop advanced advertising solutions, including solutions that will allow operators to implement addressable (i.e. geographically and demographically targeted) and interactive (e.g. telescoping-, RFI- and tcommerce-enabled) advertising. Such solutions, the companies say, will enable TV advertising to "become more relevant and interesting, therefore more profitable, as ads will be both interactive and specifically addressed to households."

Online video advertising network operator, Tremor Media, said Tuesday that it is bolstering its European team with senior expertise and new hires, as part of what it describes as an "aggressive drive for European interactive video ad dominance."

Weather Underground Licenses Jivox's Interactive Video Advertising Platform

--BlackArrow Raises $20 Million in NDS-Led Series C Funding Round

Advanced advertising technology provider, BlackArrow, announced Monday that it has closed a $20 million Series C financing round that was led by interactive TV and conditional access technology provider, NDS, and that also saw the participation of existing BlackArrow investors Cisco, Comcast Interactive Capital, Intel Capital, the Mayfield Fund and Polaris Venture Partners.

Canoe Ventures Names Gerard Broussard VP of Research and Analytics

Canoe Ventures, the company tasked with implementing the US cable industry's plans for interactive and addressable advertising (note: its backers are Comcast, Time Warner Cable, Cox, Charter, Cablevision and Bright House), announced last week that it has appointed Gerard Broussard to the newly created position of VP of research and analytics. He will report to Canoe's COO, Kathy Timko, and will be charged with charting the course for the company's research, data and analytics functions tied to digital TV marketing solutions.

Gotuit in Broadband Video Advertising Partnership with FreeWheel

Gotuit Media, a company that offers metadata technologies which, among other things, allow end-users to instantly access the parts of a piece of video that interest them, and which can also be used by video publishers to allow end-users to make mash-ups out of their content, using metadata-defined virtual video clips (note: its customers include ESPN, Turner and WWE), said Tuesday that it has integrated its technologies with FreeWheel's video monetization technology, and has also joined FreeWheel's PAVE ("Partners Accelerating the Video Economy") Initiative.

This Year's CableNET to Highlight EBIF- and tru2way-Based Interactive TV and Advanced Advertising

CableLabs and the NCTA on Tuesday unveiled the line-up of companies that will be participating in CableNET, their annual "hands-on" showcase of new cable technologies and products at the NCTA's Cable Show (takes place May 11th-13th in Los Angeles). This year's showcase will primarily highlight new EBIF- and tru2way-based interactive TV and advanced advertising solutions; however, it will also feature solutions for DOCSIS 3.0, backoffice management and 3D TV.
