Earlier this month (see the article published on itvt.com, January 12th), broadband video platform provider, Ooyala, announced that it had entered into a partnership with NTT Smartconnect--a subsidiary of Asia's largest telco, NTT Holdings--to sell a localized, co-branded version of its flagship Backlot video platform in Japan. On Wednesday, the company launched the new Japanese version of the platform, together with a Japanese Web site.
--President to Answer Viewer-Submitted-and-Selected Questions at Live Streaming Event Next Week
In a posting on its corporate blog, Tuesday, YouTube announced that, during and after President Obama's State of the Union speech--which will be live-streamed Wednesday on YouTube among other platforms, along with the Republican Party's response--users of its service will be able to ask follow-up questions, some of which will be answered live by the president himself next week as part of a special live event (whose exact time and date has apparently not yet been determined). Kyte, a San Francisco-based company that offers a social-enabled broadband and mobile video platform for live and on-demand content (note: it bills its platform as "combin[ing] the real-time, interactive and community building capabilities of the social Web with professional-grade analytics and content management features, enabling businesses and organizations to engage online and mobile audiences and build community around their brand"), on Tuesday launched Kyte Console 2.0.
SeeSaw--the broadband VOD service that broadcast transmission company, Arqiva, is developing following its acquisition of the platform assets of Project Kangaroo, the VOD platform developed by UKVOD, a joint venture between the BBC's commercial arm, BBC Worldwide, and terrestrial broadcasters, ITV and Channel 4, for a price believed to be in the £8 million range (note: Project Kangaroo was believed to be close to launch, when it was nixed in February by the Competition Commission, an independent public body that investigates mergers, markets and regulated industries at the UK government's behest)--will today (Tuesday) be

Broadband video platform provider, Ooyala, announced Wednesday that Telegraph Media Group (TMG), which publishes the UK newspaper, The Daily Telegraph and its Web site, telegraph.co.uk, has chosen its platform to power its broadband video offerings. The deal--which sees Ooyala replacing rival Brightcove as TMG's broadband video platform provider--also calls for Ooyala to work with TMG's recently launched digital business unit, the Euston Project, to develop new technologies for the delivery and consumption of online media. According to Ooyala, members of its technical team will begin working out of the Euston Project's facilities next week.

--New "Navigate YouTube" iPhone/iPod touch App Launched
Paris-based video-sharing site operator, Dailymotion, on Monday announced the launch in the Apple App Store of an iPhone/iPod touch app that incorporates both content channels and capabilities for creating and uploading videos. According to the company, the app allows users to search a library of over 12 million videos and to surf 14 themed channels, including Music, Film & TV, Funny, and Sports & Extreme, as well as lists of viral videos. It also lets users share videos with their friends, Dailymotion says, and access and manage their Dailymotion accounts. In addition, it allows iPhone 3GS users to record and upload videos straight from their handset to their accounts.
