Charter Launches VOD Reminder Service, Claims Record Usage of its VOD Platform

Cable MSO, Charter Communications, has launched an "on-demand reminder service" that sends customers text or email reminders, alerting them to new movie releases, events and premieres available on its VOD platform. Customers can register to receive the reminders, which are based on both title and category searches, at http://www.charter.net/reminders.

Comcast in "Exclusive" VOD Partnership with Shakira

Comcast announced Monday that it will today (Tuesday) launch an HD VOD collection showcasing music videos, biographical footage and live performances from Shakira, thanks to an exclusive partnership with the Colombian singer (note: the MSO also recently launched a similar exclusive HD VOD collection featuring singer, Taylor Swift--see the article published on itvt.com, December 3rd).

Major Cable Operators to Miss tru2way Deadline Stipulated in MOU with CE Manufacturers

Comcast, Time Warner Cable and Cox Communications have conceded that they will not--as they had promised in a supposedly binding MOU with various consumer electronics/hardware manufacturers that was announced last spring--have tru2way technology deployed across their entire service footprints by July 1st, according to a report Tuesday by Todd Spangler in the US cable-industry trade publication, Multichannel News.

Charter Teams with Disney on New SVOD Service

Charter Communications announced last month that it has partnered
with Disney-ABC Domestic Television to launch a new subscription
VOD service.
Priced at $4.99 per month and dubbed Disney Family
Movies, the new service offers around a dozen Disney movies and
animated shorts; titles remain in rotation for about a month and new
titles are added weekly. According to Disney, the rotating titles are
designed to have broad appeal, targeting children, teens, adults and
families. Titles available on the service at launch include "Honey, I
Shrunk the Kids," "Air Buddies," "Tarzan & Jane" and "Geppetto."

US cable-industry research, development and standards organization,
CableLabs, announced earlier this month that six companies have
signed a binding memorandum of understanding (MOU) on
tru2way/OCAP technology with the top-six cable operators in the US,

Comcast, Time Warner, Cox, Cablevision, Charter and Bright House
Networks (which together account for over 80% of US cable
subscribers and 105 million homes passed). The signatory companies
are consumer electronics manufacturers, Sony Electronics (which was
