Hulu CEO Trumpets Service's Growth in 2009

In a posting on the company's blog last week, Jason Kilar, CEO of Hulu--the free, ad-supported broadband video venture co-owned by The Walt Disney Company (ABC), NBC Universal and News Corp. (Fox)--provided some data on Hulu's growth over the past year. According to Kilar:

Warner Music Group in Deal with Hulu

Warner Music Group on Tuesday announced a deal with Hulu, the free, ad-supported broadband video venture co-owned by The Walt Disney Company (ABC), NBC Universal and News Corp. (Fox). According to the company, the deal--which follows a deal between Hulu and EMI Music that was announced last month (see the article published on itvt.com, November 18th)--will see it providing Hulu with music videos, artist interviews, live concert coverage and behind-the-scenes footage from its various artists and labels (note: WMG's labels include Atlantic Records, Rhino Records and Warner Bros. Records).

Hulu Beta-Launches "Captions Search" Functionality, "Heat Map" Feature

Hulu, the free, ad-supported broadband video venture co-owned by The Walt Disney Company (ABC), NBC Universal and News Corp. (Fox), contacted [itvt] Monday to let us know that it has beta-launched a Captions Search service that it says allows users to search the captioning of "thousands of videos from hundreds of shows" (including, for example, "Glee," "Modern Family," "30 Rock" and "The Colbert Report") on its platform.

EMI Becomes First Major Music Company to Offer Music Videos, Concert Coverage on Hulu

Hulu, the free, ad-supported broadband video venture co-owned by The Walt Disney Company (ABC), NBC Universal and News Corp. (Fox), said Wednesday that it has signed a deal with EMI Music, under which the latter will be the first major music company to offer concerts and music videos on Hulu's broadband video platform.

Myka Launches Intel Atom Processor-Based Over-the-Top STB Device

Over-the-top-TV specialist, Myka, has launched a Web-to-TV set-top box, dubbed the Myka ION, which it bills as "the first consumer Web-to-TV product that can easily run Boxee, Hulu and other leading Internet video services." The $379 device is powered by the Intel Atom Processor 330 and the Nvidia ION Graphics Processor.

Hulu's UK Launch Pushed Back to Early 2010, Due to Slow Negotiations with UK Broadcasters

According to a report Monday in the UK newspaper, The Daily Telegraph, Hulu, the free, ad-supported broadband video venture co-owned by The Walt Disney Company (ABC), NBC Universal and News Corp. (Fox), will not launch in the UK until early next year. It had previously been expected to roll out the UK version of its service next month.

Verismo in Over-the-Top-TV Deal with MediaMall Technologies

--MediaMall PlayOn Will Allow VuNow Users to Access Hulu, Netflix, CNN and More

Verismo Networks, a Silicon Valley-based company that offers an over-the-top-TV platform called VuNow (note: the platform has traditionally been offered in conjunction with a small set-top box device called the PoD; however, back in February, Verismo announced the launch of a global OEM initiative targeting consumer OEM's, content aggregators and ISP's--see the article published on itvt.com, May 8th), announced Tuesday that the VuNow platform can now play content from, among other sources, Hulu, Netflix, CBS, CNN, ESPN and Amazon

Hulu Updates its Search Results Page

In a posting on its corporate blog, Tuesday, broadcast network-owned broadband video service, Hulu (note: in late April--see the article posted on itvt.com, April 30th--it was announced that The Walt Disney Company, via its ABC Enterprises subsidiary, would join NBC Universal, Fox and Providence Equity Partners as a joint venture partner in and equity owner of Hulu--leaving CBS as the only major US broadcast network not participating in the service), announced some updates to its Search Results page, as well as to its Most Popular and Recently Added
