Ocean Blue Teams with RNIB to Enable Blind People to Use EPG's and Other Interactive TV Services

Bristol, UK-based digital TV software provider, Ocean Blue Software, contacted [itvt] Sunday to let us know that it has partnered with the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) to develop a set-top box-based text-to-speech (TTS) technology that will enable blind and other visually impaired people to use at least some interactive TV services. The company says it created a consortium to develop the technology, which turns on-screen text into speech and which will thus allow such services as set-up menus, EPG's and on-screen prompts to be spoken to viewers.

Bristol, UK-based digital TV software provider, Ocean Blue, has
released what it describes as "early details" about a new design tool it is
developing, which it claims will enable fast, visual development of
MHEG applications for broadcast to set-top boxes and integrated
digital television sets.
Dubbed Triton, the new, Windows-based
software tool is scheduled to be released by the fall. According to the
company, once an application has been designed with the tool, its
visual components are translated into MHEG-5 application code, ready
for loading into a DSM-CC carousel and broadcast (note: among other

Ocean Blue to Offer Solution for HD Interactive TV on DTT

Bristol, UK-based digital TV software provider, Ocean Blue,
announced earlier this month that it will shortly be releasing what it
claims is the first digital terrestrial television solution to support
high-definition interactive TV services.
According to the company, the
solution uses the enhanced graphics capabilities of HD-ready
televisions during red-button sessions to provide consumers with an
enhanced viewing experience. The solution is based on the latest
version of Ocean Blue's Voyager MHEG-5 software, which it says will
be available in early summer and will comply with new HD
