ITV's Future Technology Department Reported to Be Facing Ax

UK broadcast-industry trade publication, Broadcast, reported Thursday that UK commercial broadcaster, ITV (note: the name is an acronym for Independent Television Network), is set to ax its future technology department. According to Broadcast, ITV's director of future technologies, Simon Fell, "is understood to be in consultation with the commercial broadcaster over his job, along with the rest of his department, which is thought to comprise under ten staff." An ITV spokesperson told the publication that the broadcaster was "still in the consultancy process" and declined to provide specifics about Fell's and his department's futures at ITV. Fell and his department have played a key role in developing and implementing ITV's red-button interactive TV, HDTV, and mobile and broadband TV initiatives.
