NetPlay TV Appoints Broadcast-Industry Veteran, Clive Jones, as Non-Executive Chairman

--Appointment Billed as Helping Company's Push to Offer More Live Interactive TV Gaming

UK-based interactive TV gaming company, NetPlay TV (note: the company recently acquired Two Way Gaming, a joint venture between Two Way TV and Win Gaming, and, as part of that deal, has taken over the production of interactive TV gaming channel, Challenge Jackpot, which offers programming on the UK's Virgin Media cable, Sky satellite and Freeview digital terrestrial platforms--see article posted on, May 19th), said Monday that it has named Clive Jones as its non-executive chairman. The company says that Martin Higginson will remain as CEO.

According to NetPlay TV, Jones has had a distinguished broadcasting career that began in 1978 when he produced award-winning news programs and documentaries for UK terrestrial broadcaster, ITV. He subsequently moved into management, first as an editor of "TVAM," then as managing director of Central Television and the London News Network. His career also includes stints as chief executive of both ITV News and Carlton UK Television. He is currently non-executive chairman of GMTV and a non-executive director of S4C, as well as governor of the National Film and Television School.

NetPlay TV bills Jones's appointment as helping put it in a good position to "deliver revenue-generating programming to broadcasters." Over the past two years, the company says, it has proved that live gambling is a sustainable and profitable form of entertainment, and customers are increasingly demanding live gaming products. It says that a recent Ofcom ruling that reclassified TV gambling as teleshopping and allowed UK terrestrial broadcasters to broadcast teleshopping for up to six hours a day presents it with new opportunities to offer its live, interactive TV gambling products to broader audiences. "I'd like to welcome Clive to the NetPlay TV Board," NetPlay TV CEO, Higginson, said in a prepared statement. "He brings with him a wealth of experience in terms of his management skills, corporate governance and his connections in the media world. Over the past two years we have proved that interactive live gaming can work and we're now ready to roll out our successful formats to new broadcasters and partners alike." Added Jones: "I am delighted to be joining NetPlay TV as it consolidates its position in the market and embarks on a new period of growth. We plan to build an interactive business of both national and international scale."
