Concurrent Launches Three-Screen Census-Level Media Data Collection Solution

VOD technology provider, Concurrent, on Wednesday launched a cross-services data storage and correlation solution, called Central Data Warehouse (CDW), which it says is designed to offer a 360-degree view of linear, VOD and interactive media consumption across TV, mobile and PC screens. The company bills the CDW as the industry's first centralized data warehouse solution to allow broadband operators to consolidate the collection, storage and correlation of census-level media data from linear broadcast, VOD and online video viewing, facilitating a "secure and seamless exchange of consumption data among media industry stakeholders."

According to Concurrent, the "explosion" of video on TV, PC's and mobile devices has created a fundamental shift in consumer viewing behavior; however, the company says, current data storage offerings are not adequately designed to collect consolidated, census-level consumption data across the three screens. CDW, the company claims, provides access to the "four dimensional data views" of subscriber consumption, content consumption, operational reporting and advertising campaign performance, while eliminating the need for multiple media data warehouses and simplifying access to enable analytics and reporting. "With CDW, operators can leverage their real-time, census-level data to deliver accurate reporting to their valued stakeholders, who in turn can make informed decisions regarding content consumption and advertising effectiveness across multiple services and screens," Paul Haddad, Concurrent's VP and general manager of media data and advertising solutions, said in a prepared statement. "Concurrent has leveraged our leadership and significant experience in media data management to address a complex, specialized, and growing challenge to all participants in the media industry value chain."

Concurrent says that, with the introduction of CDW, its existing and new customers can update their media data and advertising solutions platforms and accelerate their support of industry-wide audience measurement firms calling for real-time, cross-services data. CDW is designed with open and standards-based interfaces, the company says, in order to support configurable and seamless data exchange with authorized third parties. The solution is slated to be commercially available this month for VOD services, and to support and integrate linear and interactive data in the fourth quarter. Mobile and online data support will be available in the first half of next year, the company says.
