Kudelski Executive Appointed to OpenTV's Board of Directors

--OpenTV Planning European Push for its Eclipse Ad Campaign Management Platform at IBC

In a regulatory filing earlier this week, interactive TV and advanced advertising technology provider, OpenTV, stated that it has appointed Alex Osadzinski, EVP and director of digital TV product at Kudelski, to its board of directors. Osadzinski is the third Kudelski executive currently on OpenTV's board: the others are Kudelski chairman, Andre Kudelski, and Pierre Roy, COO of Kudelski-subsidiary, Nagravision. Kudelski controls approximately 77% of the voting shares of OpenTV. Earlier this year (see the articles published on itvt.com, June 3rd, 5th, 10th and 11th), a special committee of OpenTV's board of directors rejected an unsolicited bid by Kudelski to acquire the rest of the company's shares.

In other OpenTV news: The company says it plans to showcase its entry-level ad campaign management solution, OpenTV Eclipse, in its booth at the IBC show in Amsterdam next week (Hall 1, Stand C81). According to the company, OpenTV Eclipse is designed for operators with fewer than 200 channels and "provides a campaign management solution for operators in markets such as Europe, Asia and Latin America wishing to develop their ad insertion operations." It allows service providers in those regions to streamline the workflow of linear ad campaigns, OpenTV says, including delivery and reporting processes. It is also part of a joint solution from OpenTV and Arris, called "Ad in a Box," which is billed as providing an end-to-end digital program insertion (DPI) advertising system for the European market. "Advertising management is becoming an increasingly vital component to the success of advertising campaigns worldwide," Paul Woidke, OpenTV's SVP and general manager of advanced advertising, said in a prepared statement. "The concepts of ad insertion and campaign management are gaining momentum in Europe and other regions, and with a proven solution like Eclipse, OpenTV can help service providers around the world grow their advertising business by making it more valuable, more efficient and easier to manage."

According to OpenTV, visitors to its IBC booth will be pitched on how OpenTV Eclipse makes it easier for operators to manage their ad insertion campaigns: by accommodating essential traffic and billing needs, the company claims, the platform provides the fundamental features required to get an ad sales team operational. The company bills the solution as providing key features, processes and workflows for customer management, copy management, program/network management, inventory allocation, orders, schedule, verification, month-end processing, billing and reporting, in order to "provide a basic but solid foundation for ad insertion teams." OpenTV says that the first international deployment of Eclipse--which it says it engineered to enable a smooth migration to its higher-end EclipsePlus platform--is expected to take place in Europe later this year.
