itaas in EBIF Deal with Charter Communications

itaas--an Atlanta-based company which provides a range of software development, integration and testing services for interactive TV (including ETV/EBIF, tru2way and IPTV solutions), and which earlier this week (see the article published on, May 11th) announced that it had ported the EBIF user agent of Comcast-subsidiary, TVWorks, to Cisco set-top boxes--today (Wednesday) announced that it has signed an agreement with Charter Communications that includes licensing, installation and support for the TVWorks ETV platform. According to the company, the agreement includes the EBIF user agent, the Pathway Communications Suite and the OCAP Services Library (OSL) components of the interactive platform.

The way is now paved for Charter to begin deployment of interactive advertising and services across various digital set-tops, itaas says. "The TVWorks EBIF platform is a key component for providing new interactive applications to our customers," Doug Ike, Charter's VP of advanced video and applications engineering, said in a prepared statement. Added itaas COO, Jaspal Bhasin: "Licensing and supporting EBIF deployment to MSO's such as Charter is critical to increasing the footprint of EBIF-enabled set tops and is an integral part of the itaas EBIF offering. This is a natural extension of our ITV commitment that helps accelerate the pace of deployment and provide rich interactive to consumers faster."

itaas--which describes itself as specializing in "interapptivity" (i.e. "facilitating the development and deployment of application content across multiple platforms")--offers software design, development, integration, deployment and support services for MSO's, programmers, application developers and technology providers. It also supports the development and deployment of interactive apps and services through its istart developer program, which offers SDK's and support for Time Warner Cable's MDN, ODN and MAS software, Cisco's SARA/PowerTV and OCAP Axiom platforms, FourthWall Media's EBIF User Agent and the TVWorks ETV platform. It also recently announced support for enhancements to the SARA guide and testing services for uDTA devices.
