The [itvt] editorial team is on the road this week, so we are covering most stories in round-up/summary form, and we anticipate that there will be some additional interruptions of our regular news publishing schedule beyond that. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience to our readers.

  • Verizon FiOS TV has announced the roll-out of its Visual 411 directory assistance interactive TV widget--which allows viewers to search for local businesses by name, type of business or keywords such as "automotive" or "florist," and which was initially rolled out in the Dallas-Forth Worth Metroplex--in Washington DC, California, Delaware, Florida, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Texas and Virginia.
  • Western Digital (WD), a company best known for its external storage devices, has launched an OTT set-top box called the WD TV Live Plus HD Media Player. According to the company, the new $150 box supports Netflix's Watch Instantly streaming video service, and also allows users to access content from YouTube, Flickr, Pandora, Live365 and MediaFly. "Unlike most other Netflix-capable devices," the company states in its press materials, "the WD TV Live Plus HD Media Player also lets consumers enjoy a broad variety of the digital media they already own, creating a unified entertainment experience."
