Verimatrix Teams with I-Systems to Deploy DVB-C/IPTV Hybrid Pay-TV System for Chilean Operator

--Deployment Also Employs GoBackTV Middleware and VOD Servers, Xavi Set-Top Boxes

Content security specialist, Verimatrix, said Tuesday that it has teamed with Santiago, Chile-based systems integrator, I-Systems, to deploy a hybrid DVB-C/IPTV system for Chilean operator, Gtd Manquehue. According to the company, I-Systems is using its Verimatrix Video Content Authority System (VCAS) for DVB as part of a digital TV platform that includes middleware and VOD servers from GoBackTV and hybrid set-top boxes from Xavi.

Gtd Manquehue's new hybrid TV service is delivered over an FTTH network that it claims is the first of its kind in Chile. The service offers HD channels via DVB-C and incorporates an IP return channel for VOD, interactive TV and key management. "We conducted an extensive evaluation of the solution from I-Systems and Verimatrix and were very pleased with the platform's capabilities to deliver and secure high-quality broadcast content along with an expanding range of interactive services," Fernando Gana, general manager of Gtd Manquehue's pay-TV business unit, Gtd Imagen, said in a prepared statement.

According to Verimatrix--which says that Latin American operators are increasingly using IP-based networks in combination with DVB-based broadcasting in order to allow them to offer advanced interactive services and program guides--Gtd is implementing a "cap-and-grow" strategy by adding VCAS via DVB Simulcrypt for its new advanced services, using hybrid set-tops, while capping its installed base of older set-tops supported by a legacy conditional access system. This, the company says, makes for a smooth migration without service or revenue disruptions. "We have received a tremendous response to our integrated solution with Verimatrix because it enables operators to leverage their existing technology investments while positioning themselves for future growth," I-Systems project manager, Felipe Larrain, said in a prepared statement. Added Verimatrix's chief sales and marketing officer, Steve Oetegenn: "We expect Latin America to be a significant growth area for us as we are seeing many progressive service providers taking advantage of advanced, cost-effective technology. I-Systems is clearly a valuable partner for us in this region. We are very proud to have earned the trust of Gtd as the latest DVB hybrid network customer to deploy our proven VCAS for DVB solution."
