DirecTV Teams with ESPN to Offer Interactive TV Coverage of British Open Golf Championship

DirecTV is teaming with ESPN to offer interactive TV coverage of the British Open Golf Championship. Dubbed the Open Championship Golf Experience, the coverage will be available (in HD) July 15th through 18th, and will center on a multiscreen "Mix" channel that will offer four video feeds: 1) ESPN's main network feed; 2) coverage of holes 1 and 18; 3) coverage of the 17th hole; and 4) "International View," a BBC-produced feed featuring commentary from the corporation. Viewers will be able to use their remotes to highlight a feed in order to listen to its audio, and will also be able to click on it in order to watch it in full-screen mode.

In addition, while watching the multiscreen Mix channel or any of its component channels, viewers will be able to press the red button to access a menu of options, including: 1) "Top 5 Leaders," a list of real-time scores for the tournament's top players; 2) "Leaderboard," a more comprehensive list of real-time scores (note: viewers will be able to use their remotes to expand "Top 5 Leaders" into "Leaderboard"); 3) "Scorecard," which is billed as allowing viewers to "keep tabs on all your favorite golfers for every round throughout the tournament"; and 4) "The Open Championship Trivia Game," a 10-question quiz that tests viewers' knowledge of the Open Championship and the Royal St. Andrews golf course where it will be held this year.
