  • TiVo and Samsung have announced a partnership to develop an advanced TiVo-ready HD DVR, which they plan to bring to market next year. "To bring this new PVR set-top box offering to market, Samsung has licensed TiVo's Hardware Porting Kit and will work with TiVo to build a TiVo verified platform which dramatically accelerates deployment for operators licensing the TiVo solution," the companies state in their press materials. "This allows operators anywhere in the world to quickly deploy PVR set-top boxes with the TiVo consumer experience. The integration of TiVo's industry-leading interactive television software with Samsung's solution is a major win for operators; the new product will help decrease development complexities, improve time to market and reduce implementation costs for operators that want to give their subscribers an unmatched television experience. The initial implementation is expected to support an advanced HD PVR for European DVB networks, and the two companies may add non-PVR devices and additional platforms worldwide."
  • TV search and recommendations specialist, TV Genius, has announced that Scottish commercial terrestrial broadcaster, STV, has selected its content discovery platform to offer search and recommendation functionality on its digital platforms, including its online catch-up service, the STV Player. Meanwhile, at the IBC, TV Genius has been collaborating with IP set-top box company, Amino, to demo its platform on the latter's Amino Freedom hybrid/OTT media center.
  • Verizon and HBO have announced that Verizon FiOS TV customers are the first to gain access to, an online destination featuring around 700 hours of programming per month from HBO's Cinemax arm. The service, which is similar to the HBO Go service that launched with Verizon FiOS in February, offers authenticated Cinemax subscribers free, unlimited access to Cinemax programming from any US location via a broadband connection.
