Latens, Indieon Partner on Set-Top Box, Middleware and Security Solution for Satellite-TV Operators

Latens, a Belfast-based company that specializes in DVB-compliant conditional access and middleware technologies, contacted [itvt] Monday to let us know that it has partnered with Indian set-top box and middleware company, Indieon Technologies, to develop what the companies are billing as a secure, cardless, one-way broadcasting solution for DTH operators globally. The solution has been deployed by Nepal's Dish TV, the companies say. "The combination of Indieon's STB range and Latens' software CAS, coupled with the Indieon middleware, offers satellite operators cost-effective, highly monetizable, future-proof and very secure enhanced delivery of DTH pay-TV services," Adnan Dhuliawala, Indieon's assistant general manager of business development, said in a prepared statement. "With features ranging from interactive EPG, PPV, nVOD, USB-PVR, the first-ever single tuner-based push-VOD solution, localized advertising, information services and games, operators will be able to increase ARPU to a new high and at affordable pricing-levels for the first time in Asia."

Latens claims to offer the world's only DVB-compliant, software-only conditional access system (CAS) designed for cable, satellite and digital terrestrial. The company says that its cardless technology offers pay-TV operators a more dynamic and secure anti-piracy strategy at a much lower cost than card-based or embedded set-top systems. "This integration of Latens' CAS with Indieon's STB and middleware is set to revolutionize how operators do business in Asia," Latens' regional director, Rahul Nehra, said in a prepared statement. "This combination offers unbelievable functionality, cost points and unmatched security which of late have become the main challenge of most operators." Added Latens' director of set-top box partner strategy, Jean-Paul Heron: "Indieon and Latens have worked closely together to answer the demands of operators and provide a secure one-way DTH STB. With Latens CAS and Indieon STB's, the operator will have a low-cost, low-risk cardless solution with no manufacturing outlay, distribution or card replacement costs."
