Exclusive: Taboola Looks to Bring its Video Recommendations to Smaller Brightcove Customers

--Says Brightcove Customers Can Now Implement Video Recommendations for $59.99 per Month

Taboola, a New York-based provider of video recommendation engines (note: the company was founded in 2007 by a team of veteran Israel National Security Agency researchers who it says "leverag[ed] years of advanced practical mathematical research experience" in order to develop its technology), contacted [itvt] Monday to let us know that it has expanded its partnership with online video platform provider, Brightcove (note: for coverage of the original announcement of the partnership, see the article published on itvt.com, November 2nd, 2009), in order to "enable small and medium businesses to affordably run [its] video recommendation engine in conjunction with the Brightcove platform." The company says that smaller Web sites using Brightcove's $499 Express edition can now implement Taboola recommendations "within minutes" to their Brightcove players, on article pages, index pages and homepages, for a monthly subscription that starts at $59.99.


According to Taboola, its video recommendations are based on advanced mathematical algorithms that combine behavioral and contextual data in order to analyze users' engagement with the videos they watch and generate real-time predictions for additional videos of interest. The recommendations appear as a list of thumbnail images in a section entitled "Other Videos You May Like," on article, index and video pages. The company claims that a mutual Taboola-Brightcove customer, The New York Times, saw an increase of 250% in video recommendation CTR after implementing its video recommendation technology. "We are very excited about expanding our partnership with Brightcove even further, working with their great Express team on this project to offer our discovery platform to smaller sites," said Taboola founder and CEO, Adam Singolda. "We had a remarkable 2010, growing our publisher network with exciting partners, and we are thrilled about offering our platform for the first time to every Web site that is using Brightcove Express."


Taboola, which offers recommendations solutions for text as well as video, claims that its customers typically see a 15%-200% increase in video views within a few weeks of implementing its technology. The company claims that it makes recommendations to over 51 million unique users per month, across a network of content publishers that includes CNN, Kiplinger, Slate, Demand Media, Revision3 and others.
