Comporium Offering TiVo Premiere DVR's from Evolution Digital

--Evolution Says It Is Supplying the TiVo Premiere to over 30 North American Cable Operators

Rock Hill, SC-based telecommunications provider, Comporium, said Wednesday that it has begun offering the TiVo Premiere DVR to power a new hybrid-TV offering that combines its digital cable channels with on-demand content from the Internet. The TiVo boxes are being supplied to Comporium by Evolution Digital, a reseller of equipment to independent cable operators, which has a partnership in place with TiVo that sees it offering small and mid-sized cable operators TiVo HD DVR's as a platform for interactive TV and over-the-top services (see, for example, the article published on, December 21st, 2009).

According to Comporium, customers equipped with the TiVo Premiere can record up to 45 hours of HD programming; access Internet video and audio content from YouTube, Blockbuster On Demand, Amazon Video On Demand, Pandora, Rhapsody, Music Choice and Live 365 (but not Netflix); and access their personal media files on their TV set. The box also supports multi-room DVR viewing and remote management from the Web and smartphones. The company is leasing customers their first unit for $16.95 per month (i.e. $10 more than a regular HD DVR), and each additional unit also for $16.95 per month (i.e. $4 more than a regular additional HD DVR). It says that customers who order the TiVo Premiere have no upfront cost or term commitment, but must subscribe to its HD DVR and high-speed Internet services. "We are thrilled to provide the TiVo Premiere to our customers because of award-winning user experience and access to millions of broadband entertainment choices delivered directly to customers' televisions," Comporium COO, Glenn McFadden, said in a prepared statement. "Many people seeking the ultimate digital entertainment experience are going to find the TiVo Premiere box to be a real value because of its access to thousands of movies, music, Web videos, photos and more."

Comporium says that its deployment of TiVo boxes follows several months of testing in collaboration with Evolution Digital. The latter claims to be supplying the TiVo Premiere to over 30 cable operators throughout North America.
