ANT Galio Powers Humax's New TV Portal

--Portal Brings BBC iPlayer, Internet Radio, Flickr and Other OTT Services to Freeview STB's

Cambridge, UK-based digital TV software specialist, ANT, contacted [itvt] Thursday to let us know that its ANT Galio platform is powering set-top box manufacturer Humax's new TV Portal. The company says that an automatic, over-the-air update to all Humax's HDR-FOX T2 Freeview+ set-top boxes in the UK ran from Friday, February 4th through Sunday, February 6th, and that the update included the addition of ANT Galio in order to facilitate the new portal. The TV Portal is also slated to launch on Humax's HD-FOX T2 set-tops in a few weeks.

At launch, the Humax TV Portal offers a handful of over-the-top/on-demand services, including Flickr, the BBC iPlayer, Wiki@TV and Internet radio. A version of the Sky Player is also slated to launch on the portal in a few weeks; and a YouTube app should be available on the platform once what Humax calls "some issues with YouTube implementation" have been resolved. ANT bills the portal as "seamlessly" integrating OTT and traditional broadcast content via an easy-to-use interface. "We're delighted to see the Humax TV Portal made available in homes across the UK following the recent over-the-air update," ANT CEO, Simon Woodward, said in a prepared statement. "The flexibility of the ANT Galio platform means Humax can continue to add to the selection of services available. This is an excellent example of the integral nature of our software in the delivery of the next generation of TV viewing."
