blinkx Brings its Online Video Index to Miniweb's woomi Connected-TV Platform

San Francisco-based video search engine company, blinkx--which earlier this month announced that it was launching a connected-TV API (see the article published on, February 4th)--on Tuesday announced a new partnership with Miniweb, a London-based company which offers cloud-based technology designed to enable converged broadcast and broadband entertainment on the TV. The partnership will see blinkx bringing its index of approximately 35 million hours of online video to Miniweb's flagship woomi platform, which earlier this month went live in the UK on all Samsung TV's that feature the CE manufacturer's Internet@TV portal (see the article published on, February 4th), and which Miniweb claims will be deployed on over half of the world's connected TV's by mid-2011.

Miniweb bills the woomi platform as a "marketplace" that provides publishers who register their content with the platform with access to an "exponentially expanding" base of connected-TV users; and as giving them "total control" over the distribution of their content, including the ability to customize users' experience of that content with their own brands and business models. The platform also offers monetization via single-click secure end-user payments, the company says, or via advertising. Other key woomi features, according to Miniweb, include search, discovery, recommendations and personalization.
