Because the [itvt] editorial team is on the road this week, we are covering stories in this edition of the newsletter in round-up format:

  • Oxygen Media has promoted Jennifer Kavanagh from VP to SVP of digital. "In her new position, she will be responsible for leading the strategic initiatives and revenue-focused objectives on all of Oxygen's digital and social platforms including mobile, apps, interactive TV, gaming and content distribution," the network states in its press materials. "In addition to driving continued growth, she will be tasked with guiding Oxygen's digital strategy to maximize viewership and revenue across all digital and new media platforms...The announcement was made on the heels of a record-setting year of innovation and online growth for, including the recent launch of OxygenLive, Oxygen's dual screen co-viewing experience, within Facebook. For the recent launch of Oxygen's highly anticipated 'The Glee Project,' fans were able to attend the show's pre-premiere party via the 'Glee Project' fan page or to host their own parties on their Facebook pages. Kavanagh also brokered high-profile content partnerships with Shazam and with GetGlue, a leading social network for entertainment."
  • Alcatel-Lucent has announced that Palmetto Rural Telephone Cooperative (PRTC) is deploying its "starter pack" end-to-end IPTV solution, which is based on Microsoft Mediaroom 2.0. "With Alcatel-Lucent's solution, PRTC can support additional subscribers and offer a whole new viewing experience, including services such as whole-home DVR, caller-ID over the TV, and remote DVR," the company states in its press materials. "Alcatel-Lucent's integrated solution delivers the ability to offer interactive, personalized TV services that give subscribers a more compelling TV experience. Consumers will be able to enjoy real-time interactivity and seamless access to Web-based content, adding value to the viewing experience. By utilizing PRTC's existing headend investment, Alcatel-Lucent's Multimedia Integration Services team has delivered the entire deployment with only nominal hardware. As part of this deployment, Alcatel-Lucent will integrate the Microsoft Mediaroom middleware on blade servers, deploy the 8950 Multimedia Integration Gateway to support complex billing and OSS requirements, and the 5905 which delivers a communications gateway, remote DVR, and applications dashboard functionality."
  • Samsung Electronics UK has launched the Samsung Smart View app, which is designed to allow users to share content between their Samsung Smart TV's and various mobile devices. "Available for the Samsung Galaxy S II and at a later date for other Samsung Galaxy devices, the free 'Smart View' app means convergence between entertainment devices in the home is now a reality," the company states in its press materials. "The app works by displaying the content from the Samsung Smart TV on the mobile device's screen over a home's WiFi network, regardless of whether people are watching TV, a movie from their Blu-ray player or even content from their camcorder or other devices. The Smart View app means people can get more out of their TV, smartphone and soon, Galaxy Tab. With summer finally here, never miss a point at Wimbledon and your favorite TV shows and movies from wherever you are in the home on your Galaxy S II smartphone. From one Smart TV, different members of the family can enjoy watching the program of their choice in the room of their choice on the device of their choice...Samsung will continue to update the Samsung Smart View app with functions such as remote control functionality optimally designed for Smart TV and a 'Channel List' option, which lets users search program information and change channels from their mobile devices. The Samsung Smart View is available in the Android Market for the Galaxy S II smartphone for use with the Samsung Smart TV D7000 and D8000 series. The app will also be available for the Galaxy player in July, along with the Galaxy S and Galaxy Tab later this year."
