Exclusive: Fandango Teams with RCDb to Launch Movies App on Samsung's Connected-TV Platform

Online and mobile movie ticketing company, Fandango, will today announce the availability of a "Fandango Movies" interactive TV application in the Samsung Apps store. The app--available free of charge for 2010 and 2011 Samsung Smart TV's and Blu-ray players--was developed in partnership with TV software company, Related Content Database (RCDb), and uses the latter's RCDb Server and RCDb Connected TV software to accelerate development and integration.

According to the companies, the new app allows users to watch full HD movie trailers on-demand; access detailed movie overviews, ratings, and cast info; view exclusive celebrity interviews and clips; find theaters and showtimes by zipcode; and read critic reviews, as well as user-generated reviews and comments from the Fandango user community. "The Fandango application on Samsung Apps advances the consumer user experience beyond the era of 'TV widgets,'" RCDb CEO, Zane Vella, said in a prepared statement. "Fandango is a world-class Internet and mobile destination and our role was to extend the robust Fandango Web services to the TV." Added Eric Anderson, VP of content and product solutions at Samsung Electronics America: "The Fandango app is a natural for Samsung Smart TV's. The visual quality is great and the content is very relevant to our users. We are pleased to partner with Fandango and further build out Samsung Apps as the preferred platform for delivering the immersive entertainment experiences consumers demand."
