Because the [itvt] editorial team has been on the road the past few weeks, we are covering stories in this issue in round-up/summary format. We anticipate that it will take us several days to catch up with all the recent news: so if your company has sent us a press release or briefed us on an announcement, and you don't yet see your news covered in this issue, please bear with us.

  • Dijit Media, a company that offers a universal remote control/programming discovery app for the iPhone (see the article published on, June 15th), contacted [itvt] last week to let us know that it has launched a new version of the app that now features Facebook integration. "In the new version, users can connect their Dijit account to Facebook, and within a few minutes get a completely personalized program guide, all based on the likes of their social graph," a Dijit spokesperson explained in an email to [itvt]. "Most traditional EPG's are limited to showing time/channel data, with nothing 'personal' or customized. On the other hand, most TV recommendations are detached from the way you actually watch TV. We've combined the best of both. Our new 'My Shows' feature uses a traditional EPG, but shows only guide content as powered by your friends. It's a pretty cool new feature, and when combined with our Like/Dislikes and 'checkins' (which also works with Twitter and Facebook), it's a fun new way to handle social TV."
  • Interactive TV application development solutions provider, Ensequence, and automatic content recognition (ACR) specialist, Zeitera, have announced that they are integrating their products in order to "enable programmers and advertisers to rapidly create, manage and deploy interactive applications running on smartphones and tablets that are synchronized with content on the TV screen. The Ensequence integration with Zeitera enables programmers and advertisers to use the Ensequence iTV Manager interactive platform to create synchronized and immersive two-screen experiences for TV shows and commercials," the companies' press materials continue. "Automatic Content Recognition (ACR)-enabled applications on companion devices including smartphones and tablets help networks and advertisers create more engaging viewing experiences. Examples of synchronized second-screen interactive ACR applications include: 1) Social networking check-in and discussion. 2) Voting, polling and RFI (Request for Information) experiences. 3) Behind-the-scenes content delivery to the second screen. 4) Coupon services for brand marketers. 5) Branded product placement and television commerce ('tcommerce'). 6) Program discovery and recommendation. 7) Advertisement enhancement, extended viewing and measurement...The companies have integrated the Ensequence iTV Manager interactive platform with the Zeitera Vvid Content Identification System. The Ensequence iTV Manager platform scales interactive content across cable, satellite, telco and connected devices. Zeitera's Vvid Content ID system is an audio and video fingerprinting system for the development of synchronized interactive TV content using ACR technology." Said Ensequence chief technology and product officer, Aslam Khader: "Offering synchronized interactivity on tablets and smartphones is a great way to complement the programming and advertising offered on the TV--which ultimately keeps viewers more deeply engaged with content. The Zeitera solution combined with iTV Manager--our multiplatform management solution--solves a huge problem for programmers and advertisers who are looking for one workflow to manage all of their connected device applications."
  • Entone has announced that its Amulet HD IPTV Receiver with DVR capabilities has been selected by Telekom Srbija, Serbia's largest telco, for its national roll-out of HD IPTV. "We needed a reliable and flexible solution for delivering high-quality video services while expanding our service offering to include new applications," Telekom Srbija CTO, Sasa Lekovic, said in a prepared statement. "Because the Entone Amulet is integrated with Intracom Telecom's fs|cdn middleware, it enables us to quickly roll out emerging services to our growing subscriber base." Entone says that it will be demo'ing the Amulet IPTV Receiver in its stand (Hall 13, IP-266) at IBC2011.
