Because the [itvt] editorial team has been working on TVOT NYC Intensive 2011, we are covering stories in this issue in round-up/summary format. We anticipate that it will take us several days to catch up with all the recent news: so if your company has sent us a press release or briefed us on an announcement, and you don't yet see your news covered in this issue, please bear with us.

  • Pilat Media Global, a provider of business management software for the media industry, has announced the launch of IBMS Omnicast. "The latest version of Pilat Media's industry-leading Integrated Broadcast Management System (IBMS), IBMS OmniCast is a backend system that enables media organizations to schedule and manage sophisticated multiplatform, non-linear services such as video-on-demand (VOD), over-the-top (OTT) TV, and catch-up TV," the company explains in its press materials. "By combining highly efficient non-linear scheduling and programming, advanced workflow management tools, and powerful business analytics, IBMS OmniCast represents new opportunities for today's media content owners and distributors who are looking to efficiently offer sophisticated on-demand multiplatform services. IBMS OmniCast includes many advanced features to handle the scheduling complexities of non-linear services. Through the IBMS media metadata repository, the operator can import the details of any content to be scheduled, including the relevant rights (if needed) for the platforms being serviced. Rich content catalogs derived from massive asset libraries are easily and automatically compiled by leveraging interfaces with external metadata systems. A powerful workflow orchestration module drives the content factory, serving as an integration hub for the preparation of all media required for each service. Other scheduling features include an on-demand planner to schedule offers with associated content and promos, and a robust dashboard module for accessing data and reports to support operational and business analysis which feed back into the planning process."
  • Audio-based automatic content recognition (ACR) specialist, Shazam (note: the London-based company is best known for offering a mobile application that consumers can use to identify music, as well as unlock supplemental content associated with TV shows--a process it calls "tagging"), has announced that its Shazam for TV service is being featured by ABC in new promos for "Grey's Anatomy," which began airing last night. Shazam recently raised $32 million in order to further its efforts to target the TV space (see the article published on itvt.com, June 22nd). "Fans eagerly awaiting the season eight premiere will get an early treat by Shazaming the promo spot to unlock an exclusive sneak peek into their favorite drama," the company states in its press materials. "In addition to the exclusive preview, over the coming weeks, new content will also be added to the Shazam tag result including a music video by Scars on 45 and more scenes from the hit show, so Shazamers should keep tagging the promo whenever they see it to unlock new features."
  • In other Shazam news: The company announced last week that it is partnering with Vevo and musician, Lil Wayne, to launch the first music video that incorporates Shazam for TV. The video--for Lil Wayne's new single, "How to Love"--offers "a unique interactive Shazam experience, bringing together the company's two core strengths--music and Shazam for TV--for the first time," the company states in its press materials. "Additionally, the exclusive Vevo version of the video is also part of Shazam's Golden Tag promotions, giving Shazamers the opportunity to win an all-expense-paid trip to see Lil Wayne in concert...Entering the contest is easy! All Shazamers have to do is: 1) Activate Shazam Friends, 2) Shazam Lil Wayne's new video 'How to Love' on Vevo! Shazamers in the US and Canada who have iOS and Android devices can enter the contest anytime between today and midnight on October 15. It really is just that simple! Additionally, fans can watch other Lil Wayne videos on Vevo anytime they open the tag, get more info about Lil Wayne through his discography and buy the track. Similar to the Shazam for TV experience on TV shows and commercials, the Shazam logo will be embedded in the music video on Vevo for users to tag...Shazam Golden Tag promotions are one of the many ways Shazam is working with major label artists today. In addition to opportunities to meet the artist, Golden Tag promotions can include concert tickets, free downloads, song debuts and loads of other prizes. Record labels and artists work with Shazam to Shazam-enable their music videos and TV commercials, release exclusive content such as a new album, song or video, launch innovative advertising campaigns within the Shazam App, and build three-way promotions with the help of media partners and major brands."
