--TV Genius Seeks to Enhance its Content-Discovery Platform via Partnership with GfK Media Launches Social Power Rankings

  • TV Genius--which was recently acquired by Red Bee Media (see the article published on, August 11th)--has formed a partnership with international market research agency, GfK Media, which it says will enhance the relevance of its content-discovery platform by enabling it to draw on GfK Media's audience-research expertise. "GfK's business information services provide the essential knowledge that industry, retail, the healthcare service sectors and the media need in order to make their business decisions," TV Genius states in its press materials. "This unique partnership sees GfK Media integrate its research about the TV audience with TV Genius' Content Discovery Platform. Deployed by companies including BSkyB, ITV, and SESAstra, TV Genius makes it easy to keep television relevant while evolving with the rapidly changing TV marketplace." Said TV Genius general manager, Tom Weiss: "We understand that the way in which viewers watch television--their likes and dislikes, and their habits--varies in different countries and in different cultures. As a result of the combination of our highly relevant platform and GfK Media's market-specific data, operators no longer need to second-guess their consumers--they can understand their exact needs and desires.   • (which claims to have over 23 million unique users and 4.5 million mobile app installations) has launched a service called Social Power Rankings. "Social Power Rankings, the latest addition to's portfolio of social-TV offerings, are a continuously updated feature highlighting the most social shows," the company states in its press materials. "Social Power Rankings also showcase the funniest and most provocative user comments, curated by editors throughout each day. The rankings are compiled by tabulating social activity on, including check-ins, comments, fan page actions, episode discussions, and Facebook and Twitter actions. Social Power Rankings are prominently featured on's homepage in addition to its dedicated section...Social Power Rankings enable users to easily find where they can discuss a particular show or episode, right from the homepage. The rankings join a suite of social features on that include TV check-in, with over four million check-ins to date, and Watchlists, with over 325,000 created to date."   • Verismo Networks, which offers an end-to-end platform that it bills as facilitating deployment of broadband video services by ISP's, telcos and other service providers, contacted [itvt] earlier this week to let us know about its IBC 2011 exhibit plans (Hall 13, Stand 354).
