AT&T Deploys Wireless Set-top from Cisco

-- WiFi Receiver Designed for Rooms without Cable Outlets

Cisco is supplying a new wireless set-top to AT&T for its U-verse TV subscribers that is designed to be installed in rooms that don't have coaxial cable outlets.

The ISB7005 wireless set-top, which is part of Cisco's Videoscape portfolio, receives WiFi signals delivered from its VEN401 Wireless Access Point. "With this new technology, you can watch TV in virtually any room in the home, even rooms not wired for TV -- like the kitchen, basement or indoor garage," Cisco said in Tuesday's announcement.

AT&T is the first U.S. pay TV distributor to deploy the wireless set-top, leasing the box to subscribers for $7.99 monthly. Cisco says it has also seen interest in the set-top from international customers.
