LG Sells Ads on Connected TVs with YuMe

-- Toyota Motor Sales is Charter Advertiser

LG is looking to generate advertising revenue through its connected TV platform, striking a deal with digital video advertising provider YuMe to deliver ads to viewers that buy an LG connected TV or Blu-ray disc player.

The companies said Wednesday that they signed Toyota Motor Sales USA as the charter advertiser for LG's ad network. LG and YuMe said they will kick off pilot ad campaigns in the United States with several advertisers in November, and that they expect "broader advertiser participation" in spring 2012.

LG also released a software development kit that advertisers can use to create ads that viewers would see when they access LG's app store.   LG said advertisers can run interactive games, display coupons, and videos through the ad platform.

YuMe said it will supply advertisers with its real-time reporting system, which manages ad inventory to optimize CPMs. Advertisers will also be able to run campaigns on other connected devices that participate in YuMe's Connected Audience Network.

"The LG ad platform will enable several common digital ad formats such as interactive display banners, in-banner video and in-stream video as well as some new ad units such as click to sponsored applications and search related ad units," Sam Chang, general manager of LG's San Jose, Calif.-based Smart TV Innovation Development Group, said Wednesday's announcement.
