Softel MediaSphere Platform Reaches 50 Million Households

-- iTV Platform Deployed by BBC, Comcast, ESPN, MTV, Shaw Cable

Softel said Monday that its MediaSphere interactive TV platform is streaming applications to more than 50 million households each week, helping both operators and programmers ranging from Comcast to ESPN create applications.

UK-based Softel announced its deployments at the TVOT NYC Intensive conference in New York. MediaSphere, which lets developers create and validate apps with a headend simulation environment that uses real set-tops, is also used by BBC, MTV, Shaw Cable, Showtime, Starz, Technicolor, Time Warner Cable, Turner Broadcasting and other providers.

MediaSphere provides the tools for verifying that applications correctly interact with the various elements of the interactive infrastructure before deployment. When verification is complete, operators and programmers can use MediaSphere to deploy apps, streaming interactivity over multiple platforms and across a variety of middleware solutions, simplifying workflow and increasing reach.

“Softel has been involved from the very beginning of interactive TV,” Softel CEO Sam Pemberton said in Monday's announcement. “For the past 10 years, we have consistently developed MediaSphere to make it the most trusted multifunction iTV platform. We are proud to be streaming many of the most successful interactive apps across the world and are seeing multiplatform iTV gaining ever greater momentum," he added.
