Because the [itvt] editorial team has been working on The TV of Tomorrow Show 2012, we are covering stories in this issue in round-up/summary format.

  • MobiTV announced last week that it is working with Dolby Laboratories to deliver "a seamless, high-quality surround sound experience" across a range of platforms, including mobile phones, tablets, PC's, connected TV's and set-top boxes. "MobiTV will integrate Dolby Digital Plus into its established DRM-protected content delivery platform to provide immersing surround sound to end-users across multiple screens," the company states in its press materials. "With the expansion of TV service delivery to smartphones, tablets and other connected devices, viewers expect to be able to watch their favorite programs on any device irrespective of manufacturer or platform. The MobiTV TV Everywhere solution is easily adaptable for seamless integration with existing TV infrastructure and backend systems. Customers looking to extend their content to other platforms may leverage MobiTV's existing ingestion and encoding efforts. As an end-to-end managed service that leverages MobiTV's cloud-based video distribution platform, the TV Everywhere solution can help TV service providers reduce time-to-market and costs associated with deployment and operations. Additionally, the service will be supported 24x7 by the experienced team in the MobiTV network operations center."
  • Multiscreen media measurement company, Rentrak, has secured an expanded contract with multiplatform music programmer, Music Choice. The latter, a longtime customer of Rentrak's OnDemand Essentials service, has opted for a "limited subscription" to the company's TV Essentials service, in order to better understand the behavior of viewers of its interactive TV network, SWRV. "We are pleased to be expanding our longstanding relationship with Music Choice and partnering with them to provide insights to grow their newest content offering," Rentrak's SVP of national television sales, Carol Hinnant, said in a prepared statement. "We highly value the trust and confidence Music Choice has placed in our services and we are committed to helping them succeed."
  • Kudelski Group-owned content-protection and multiscreen-TV solutions provider, Nagra-OpenTV, said Monday that it has extended its advanced advertising partnership with Time Warner Cable Media, the advertising sales arm of the US's second-largest cable MSO. "This renewed partnership presents two significant milestones: the selection by Time Warner Cable Media of Nagra's latest-generation campaign management product, EclipsePlus/xG Billing, and the renewal of a deal between both companies for Nagra-OpenTV's advanced advertising products," the company states in its press materials. "EclipsePlus/xG Billing allows a service provider's advertising sales team to combine data from multiple order management and traffic systems into individual invoices based on each ad's metrics and pricing and for any type of ad campaign--including linear, on-demand, interactive, addressable, Web, mobile, satellite, over-the-top and long-form. It is the latest product in the Eclipse line of campaign management solutions which schedule more than 100 million spots per month and manage more than $2.5 billion of annual advertising revenue." Said Chris Faw, SVP of operations at Time Warner Cable Media: "We have chosen EclipsePlus/xG Billing to be our enterprise system because it supports our desire to serve our clients with a wide and varied portfolio of advertising solutions. It is a tremendous opportunity to simplify the billing and reporting process for our clients by seamlessly combining multiple advertising products onto a single invoice." Added Nagra-OpenTV's SVP and general manager of advanced advertising, Paul Woidke: "EclipsePlus/xG Billing is the cornerstone of our next-generation advanced advertising solutions, further strengthening our ability to provide today's MSO's with reliable and robust solutions that not only serve traditional ad campaigns but the growing need to address emerging forms of advanced ads--whether on-demand, interactive, multiscreen or addressable."
