Because the [itvt] editorial team is busy working on our upcoming TV of Tomorrow Show event, TVOT NYC Intensive (December 10th in New York City), we are covering stories in this issue in round-up/summary format:

  • Fox has announced the availability of a new, Verizon-sponsored second-screen app for its reality show, "The X Factor." According to the network, the app--dubbed "The Xtra Factor"--offers the following features: "1) News: Get to know the judges and contestants. 2) Videos and Photos: Check out video segments and photos featuring the judges, contestants and fans. 3) Pepsi Fan Base: Real-time judges' tweets as you watch live. 4) Rewards: Fans can collect points and earn rewards during the show to move up the leaderboard." The app is available for iOS and Android.
  • Hulu has launched a new version of the app that its Hulu Plus subscription platform offers on the Sony PlayStation3. According to the company, the app will eventually be rolled out to other "living room" platforms. "Designed to help you get to the shows you watch faster than ever before, the new experience includes larger, more vivid artwork and is easier to navigate," principal software development lead, Daniel Bear, states on Hulu's corporate blog. "We've implemented a tray-style format that allows you to scroll through recommendations based on your viewing history, or check out popular shows and movies, the top 100 clips on Hulu Plus, movie trailers and more. We've included a 'Shows You Watch' feature that highlights the content you regularly enjoy and lets you jump straight to the latest episode. The updated search experience provides a simple way to find content with results that appear directly beneath the search. When you select a show, you'll have access to all of the episodes and clips in one place. If it's a show you've watched before, you can pick up right where you left off. The latest update also features simplified playback, with clean, intuitive controls: press up or down to display a playback menu, or left or right to fast-forward or rewind...PlayStation 3 is the first living room platform we are rolling out the new Hulu Plus experience on."
  • itaas has announced plans to offer a mobile "dashboard" for its VOD monitoring solution, the Event Collection System (ECS). "ECS allows service providers to monitor VOD session set-up and provides real-time updates on session failures," the company states in its corporate newsletter. "But we can now demonstrate our mobile 'Dashboard' concept on system performance to allow managers and executives to quickly access performance metrics. As shown in the screen shots, this application will graphically show system performance on a mobile device. It will also allow success and performance issues to be quickly identified or rectified!"
